During this semester I have come to learn several things about myself and my writing style. I have come to understand that there are deeper meanings to stories and by analyzing them and discussing them you can create better conclusions about the authors, narratives, and yourself. The form that truly represents me and it’s me best is descriptive, narrative, and persuasive writing styles. I think these styles represent my style the best because I have come to learn that I really like persuading my audience to understand certain details in the way I see them. For example, in my blog post “1984 and Handmaid’s Tale” I stated “These two novels happen to be very similar because they show a nightmarish view of these Communist societies. Both of their worlds show how by using religion to push their views on these people and control them into the extreme totalitarian regimes in connection to the roots of Communism.” By giving details that support my suggestion I was hopefully able to convince or show the readers why I believe these two novels are similar. I showed examples of narrative writing when I wrote “Slaughterhouse Five- Roland Weary’s Letter Home’’ by giving my perspective of Roland Weary in saying “Anyway, the soldiers noticed my boots, took them from me and gave them to a boy. In return, I got these boys clogs. The clogs were so uncomfortable and I had to walk for miles in them. We finally made it to a stone cottage with twenty other Americans in there. The Germans found us there and took pictures of my feet. They made us come with them.” This shows how I used narrative to create a letter and representation of a character. Lastly, you can see how I use descriptive writing in my blog post “The Bluest Eye’’ by saying “Morrison is very good at digging really deep into the characters feelings and emotions, which creates very good, well thought out ideas for the reader to try and understand.” This shows how I can use descriptive language to create a strong analysis for the reader.

There are many different approaches you can take while trying to engage the audience you want to capture, I have learned to use the writing style that best suits the vision I have for that particular blog post and try to use very intriguing language to draw the reader in. I think by using different methods like a short story and a literary review you can pull the reader into understanding your ideas while also giving them something more to grasp and think about. Switching up how you grab the reader’s attention is a method I really like to use for it always keeps the reader on their toes.

The examples of writings I have done above show how much I have improved over this semester. I have revised these blog posts many times and have learned that correcting my writings will help me improve. I have chosen to show these blog posts because they show what my true writing style is and how I use language and examples to draw the reader in. They also reveal how I think very deep about a specific topic and try to relate it to the world as best as I can. I am very drawn to the topics I have selected because I like writing about things I am interested in and topics I can relate to myself or the world we live in. I think this helps the reader to understand the reading better and develop a better understanding of the material.

My revisions to my writings simply show how much I have learned over this period of time and how I use that knowledge to benefit my ability to write about a certain topic and allow others to better understand something as well. Overall, this class has really made me understand the importance of reading and writing as it really introduces a variety of ideas to an individual. If we think deeper about the material the authors are giving us we can improve our own understanding of something and use this new found information to benefit the things we choose to write about and how deeply we think about something. By revising the work I have done, I now know the importance of improving as a reader and writer and how this will benefit me in the real world.
